“Again, Daddy, again!” cried Jennifer bouncing in his arms. Her peals of laughter rang out like musical notes as he tossed her into the air. Landing heavily on his chest she screamed in fright.
Lovingly he whispered, “Don’t worry Jennifer, I’ve got you.” Holding her close his gentle sways became a dance as he twirled her around singing of his love. In the comfort of his arms, her eyes sparkled and smile widened once again with joy.
Can you imagine this scene with God, our Heavenly Father?
God may not toss us into the air, but, like Jennifer’s father, He lovingly saves, comforts and sings over us.
The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing,
Zephaniah 3:17
Are you shaking your head thinking, that’s not like my father?
Many have a difficult time relating to this image when their earthly father wasn’t like that. But our Heavenly Father is much different than even the best earthly father.
Why? Because our Heavenly Father is perfect. That means His love for us is perfect. Everything He does is perfect. At times, we may feel that our Heavenly Father has made a mistake, but He can’t. Mistakes are not part of who He is.
He is the Rock, His works are perfect,
and all His ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He,
Deuteronomy 32:4
Our Heavenly Father is the perfect father who patiently waits for us to fall into His arms of everlasting love.
The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore, with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”
Jeremiah 31:3
HOW CAN WE DESCRIBE OUR HEAVENLY FATHER’S, LOVE?
GOD’S LOVE IS VAST!
God’s love is higher than the highest mountain so it can elevate your joy to the highest height. It is deeper than the deepest seas so it can lift you out of the depths of depression.
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor principalities nor powers,
nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth,
nor any other created thing,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord,
Romans 8:38-39
GOD’S LOVE IS UNCONDITIONAL!
God’s love comes with no strings attached even if you don’t love Him. He loves you in spite of your mistakes, no matter what they are. He accepts you with all your flaws.
This is love:
not that we loved God,
but that He loved us
and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
I John 4:10 NIV
GOD’S LOVE IS CARING!
God knows who you are and cares about you. Everything about you is important to God, even the number of hairs on your head.
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows,
Luke 12:7
GOD’S LOVE IS COMPASSIONATE!
God feels your pain. When you are brokenhearted, God wants to heal your heart, (Psalm 147:3). When you are in trouble, God wants to rescue you. (Psalm 103:4).
But God, who is rich in mercy,
because of His great love with which He loved us,
Ephesians 2:4
GOD’S LOVE IS UNDERSTANDING!
God understands your motivations, intentions, fears, desires, joys and everything about you. He hears your deepest thoughts and quietest whispers. God understands it all.
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether,
Psalm 139:2-4
GOD’S LOVE IS FORGIVING!
Our Heavenly Father is a God of 2nd chances. When you ask His forgiveness for offenses, He readily forgives whatever you have done, (1 John 1:9). He not only forgives, but forgets.
As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us,
Psalm 103:12
HOW DO WE RECEIVE GOD’S LOVE?
God is always with you reaching out His hand waiting for you to receive His gift of love. Receiving it is your choice. All it takes is choosing to believe by faith in God’s Son, Jesus.*
For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life,
John 3:16
GOD’S LOVE CHOSE
YOU!
WILL YOU CHOOSE HIM?
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us,
that we should be called children of God!

REFLECTION
Do you believe our Heavenly Father’s love is for you?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, as I write Ephesians 2:4 and say it aloud, help me to understand and receive the love You have for me. Fill me with Your love. In Jesus name. Amen.
