Meg pounded the keys on her computer as thoughts raced through her mind. The plot she envisioned for her mystery novel taking form on the pages. Characters came alive as she gave them voices defining their personalities and assigning them parts.
Twists and clues enhanced the developing story creating suspense while keeping the ending veiled. Day after day Meg worked on her book until the mystery was completed.
Who else writes a mystery? Besides my blog, I write a mystery every day. We all do.
DAILY WE EACH WRITE A NEW PAGE IN THE STORY OF OUR LIVES.
Over the years as changes impact us, they become new chapters and together the chapters become our complete story. Our stories develop with twists to our plans and only clues to our future.
DON’T OUR STORIES SOUND LIKE MYSTERIES?
PLOT
Like Meg envisioned a plot for her novel involving plans for her characters, God envisions a story for mankind and a plan for each one of us. He reveals clues to the mystery of His plan for our future one step at at time. The best plans for our story are written by Him.
“For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord,
“Plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future”,
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
CHARACTERS
When Meg’s novel begins, little is known about the characters. As it unfolds, so do the characters’ personalities. When our story begins, we know little about the characters, but as it unfolds, we learn about those around us.
Everyone we know is a character in the story of our lives. Some characters barely impact our lives while others influence us even when they no longer appear on our pages.
Who are the characters in our story?
How do they impact us?
Do they impact our story positively or negatively? Do they encourage or dishearten us to follow the best plot for our story? How do we want them to impact what is written on our page today?
What if we write Jesus onto our page?
How would He impact
our story?
Jesus impacts and influences our story positively whenever we write Him onto our page. The more often He appears on our pages, the more clues are revealed unfolding the mystery of the best plot for our story.
As we learn about Him, His character unfolds as well. The behaviors of characters in our stories aren’t always predictable. However, we can have faith that throughout our story, Jesus is.
Jesus will never change.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever,
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus will always love us.
The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you,”
Jeremiah 31:3
Jesus will never leave us.
And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you.
He will be with you; He will not leave you nor forsake you;
do not fear nor be dismayed,
Deuteronomy 31:8
TWIST
Meg inserted twists in her novel so the reader could not anticipate what comes next. Twists may be good in a novel, but they don’t always seem good when they occur in our lives, do they?
Don’t worry, God anticipates what comes next in our story. Even twists are not a mystery to God. When we follow God’s plan, He can use even the unexpected and bad twists in our lives for good. Romans 8:28
We can have faith that He will complete His perfect plan for our story.
Being confident of this very thing,
that He who has begun a good work in you
will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ,
Philippians 1:6
EDITS
Unlike Meg, we can’t exactly edit our lives. We may be able to edit out characters, but the pages we have already written can’t be erased. What if we don’t like yesterday’s page? Then turn the page!
THE LORD IS THERE WITH
LOVE AND MERCY
TO HELP
US WRITE A NEW PAGE
EACH DAY.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness,
Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
DOESN’T THAT SOUND LIKE A BEST SELLER?
REFLECTION
Who’s writing your story today?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, as I write Jeremiah 29:11 and say it aloud, grow my faith to write Jesus on my page each day allowing Him to write the story He has created for my life. In Jesus name. Amen.
