Cold temperatures! Icy, slick or impassable roads! Poor visibility! Driving in severe winter weather can lead to getting stuck on the side of the road. What can we do? Be prepared with an emergency driving kit!
For your emergency driving kit, it doesn’t matter which 4 items you chose. They all would be advantageous if you were stuck and unable to move forward.
How about other emergencies in our lives? Do you ever feel stuck unsure of what to do and how to move forward? Our situation may not be life or death, but anytime we are stuck it certainly feels like an emergency.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET UNSTUCK?
Perhaps there is something for life’s emergencies.
What we need for life’s emergencies is portable, lightweight and easy to carry. Yet it is equipped to connect us to help, inflate our faith, make visibility clear, and get us unstuck. For emergencies in life, we need Jesus.
Our faith in Jesus activates what we need
for our emergencies in life.
WE USE OUR FAITH
LIKE ITEMS IN OUR EMERGENCY DRIVING KIT.
CELL PHONE CHARGER
What is the first thing we do when our car gets stuck? Make a call for help! If we get stuck roadside, and our cell phone’s battery is low, what can we do? Charge it up! Then we can call for help, as long as we have a signal.
Help from Jesus is only a call away.
Even when our faith is weak, our prayer for help activates our faith charging up our connection to Jesus. Our prayer always has a signal and connects 24/7, no matter where we are.
In my distress I prayed to the Lord,
and he answered me
and rescued me,
Psalm 118:5 TLB
TIRE INFLATOR
A flat tire can occur in an instant or more often as a slow leak, anywhere at any time. When a tire goes flat, we pop the trunk and pull out the tire inflator. In seconds the tire inflator temporarily inflates the tire until we can get help.
How about our faith? As we face ongoing illnesses or unresolved problems, our faith deflates slowly leaking away over time.
Even when our faith goes flat,
Jesus is with us waiting for us to activate our faith by calling on Him.
In Mark 9:23-27, when a father called on Jesus, He inflated the father’s faith casting out the deaf and dumb spirit from his son.
“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed,
“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Mark 9: 23b-24 NIV
ICE SCRAPER
What happens when we have a foggy windshield? We simply turn on the defroster! However, in winter when ice accumulates, in order to clear our visibility and move ahead, we reach for the ice scraper!
Sometimes unforgiveness, rejection
and lies we believe about ourselves leave us stuck.
They cloud our vision for what to do and how to move forward. That’s when we turn on the defroster and reach for the ice scraper!
We activate our faith by asking Jesus to defrost any unforgiveness towards Him, ourselves or others. As we forgive by faith, He can scrape off the rejection and lies we believed clearing our vision with the truth of His love for us.
But God, who is rich in mercy,
because of His great love with which He loved us,
Ephesians 2:4
Once our visibility is clear, we need some light to guide us for our next steps in moving forward.
LIGHT
Imagine being stuck on the side of the road in the dark. How could help find us? Wouldn’t a flare come in handy? A flare illuminates our position guiding help to our location. Well, at least until it burns out.
In life emergencies when we are stuck, Jesus is our light. His light never burns out and He always knows our location.
When we believe in Jesus,
our faith activates His light to illuminate our heart.
As we follow Jesus, He forever guides us out of darkness lovingly whispering what to do and how to move forward.
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying,
“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me
shall not walk in darkness,
but have the light of life,”
John 8:12

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, as I write John 8:12 and say it aloud, help my unbelief. Illuminate Your light in my heart guiding me to follow You and get unstuck. In Jesus name. Amen.
