William raced toward his mom grinning from ear to ear. Reaching her he excitedly bounced up and down. “Well,” she inquired chuckling softly, “what’s got you so excited?”
His eyes sparkled as he thrust a folded piece of construction paper into her hands. “I made this for you mom!” William exclaimed.
Smiling, she opened the paper.
Love filled her heart as she reflected on the time and effort it took for him to make her card. Pulling him into a warm embrace she said, “Thank you, William. This is lovely.” Standing erect, he proudly explained, “I made it myself and I even wrote I love you. The teacher just helped me a little bit.”
THINKING OF YOU!
Don’t we express our feelings through gifts?
Whether it’s a gift of a child’s crayon scribblings or a perfectly hand-crafted item, their endeavor reflects their love for us. From the idea conception, gathering of materials to the creation process all are undertaken with us in mind. Their creations are unique gifts of love straight from their hearts and hands to ours.

WHAT ABOUT GOD’S CREATIONS?
They too were made with us in mind. There is an astounding variety of wonderous things that God created as gifts of love for us to enjoy on this earth. God made something for everyone.
Just think about the variety: 20,000 species of butterflies, 10,000 species of birds, over 400,000 flowering plants, 30 million types of insects and the list goes on and on. Isn’t it amazing that no two creations are exactly alike?
Each creation is a unique gift of love straight from God’s heart to us.
WE ARE UNIQUE GIFTS TOO!
No two humans are exactly alike; even twins. We are each God’s unique creation.
For you fashioned my inmost being,
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I thank you because
I am awesomely made,
wonderfully; your works are wonders —
I know this very well,
Psalm 139:13-14 CJB
God purposefully gathered the perfect combination of personality traits, talents, gifts and features to create each one of us.
Why?
To fulfill His special purpose for our lives.
Whether our purpose gives us worldwide notoriety or only affects a teeny tiny corner, we are God’s loving gifts to the world.
Many, Lord my God,
are the wonders you have done,
the things you planned for us.
Psalm 40:5a NIV
GIVE IT AWAY!
Isn’t the purpose of a gift to be given away?
If William never gave the card to his mother, it wouldn’t be a gift, would it? His mom would never see the words of love he wrote, the picture he drew or the hearts he carefully crafted. The card wouldn’t fulfill its’ purpose as a gift until it was given away.
We too fulfill our purpose as God’s loving gift to the world when we give something away. What we give is our talent, time, personality, etc. following the plan of God’s purpose for our lives.
When we give, we gain.
Although we are giving of ourselves, we don’t lose. In fact, we gain joy and satisfaction. We gain a deeper relationship with Jesus as we seek to follow His plan.

WE ARE LOVED!
Like William’s card, when someone gives us a gift, it rests in our possession. They no longer tend to it. God created us as a different kind of gift; one He tends.
God’s love and care for us never ends, even if human love does.
Oh, we may choose to turn away from Him. We may even choose to reject His purpose for us. But nothing will change God’s love for us.
The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you
with an everlasting love;
Therefore, with lovingkindness I have drawn you,
Jeremiah 31:3
No matter where we go, no matter what we do, He always sees us. We always have been and will always be important to God. We will always be loved by Him.
O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways,
Psalm 139:1-2
By faith we trust in God’s love for us. By faith we follow His purpose for us to be His loving gift.
YOU ARE WONDERFULLY MADE
AS GOD’S LOVING GIFT
TO THE WORLD!
REFLECTION
Can you see yourself as God’s loving gift?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, as I write Jeremiah 31:3 and say it aloud, remind me that I am loved by You. Guide me to see my purpose and how I can be the gift that You created me to be. In Jesus name. Amen.
HAVE FAITH TO BE GOD’S LOVING GIFT
