Her fingers flew across the page frantically typing as the words came to her mind. Then she stopped. Humm. She didn’t know much about the Grand Canyon.  Neither could she name the longest river or highest mountain.  Since these facts were important to the story, she searched the internet.  An analogy unfolded like a vision as she read the facts.  Scriptures and even an old song popped up in her thoughts. Continuing to pray as she worked, the story developed.¹

This is what I experience as I write.  Have you ever tried to write a book or a blog? For some people the words just flow. For others each line is a struggle. Then there is writer’s block where the page sits blank.  Did you know that we are all authors?  Oh, we might not write a published book, but we write a page every day. We are the main character writing the story of our life.

PAGE 1
THE BEGINNING

When your character awakens, you have a blank page to write on. What will your character say and do?

How we begin our day makes a difference in our story. Like a book, the first page sets the tone.  When we start our day by praising the Lord, we are inviting Him to be a part of our story. It sets a positive, uplifting tone for our day.

I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom,
 Psalm 145:1-3 NIV

EDITS

As the day continues, your page is easily filled with times of joy and laughter. However, the words don’t always flow smoothly onto your page when difficult situations arise.  How does your character feel or react? Frustrated, impatient or defensive? If so, would you like to do some editing?

Sometimes those feelings hide unforgiveness. Could your character ask a question? “Heavenly Father, is there any unforgiveness in me? If so, please reveal it and show me how to be free.”

And whenever you stand praying,
 if you have anything against anyone, forgive him,
that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses,
 Mark 11:25

When we turn to Him, our Heavenly Father will lovingly step in and edit our story.  As we forgive, we can write peaceful words to fill our page. Perhaps the situation will even be repaired and others will find peace too.

WRITERS BLOCK

Is your character facing the same difficult situation again and again?

Are they barely hanging on?  Are they blocked from writing a solution? What choice will your character make so they can write again?

We can choose to react in faith by giving the situation to the Lord and letting Him determine the outcome.  He will teach us how to avoid the situation or react in peace in the future. He is always there waiting for us to give Him our pen, so He can write His solution on our page.

The Lord will guide you continually,
and satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water,
whose waters do not fail,
 Isaiah 58:11

HOW WILL IT END?

Now, it’s time to end today’s page. Are you ready for sleep? Are anxious or negative thoughts keeping you awake as they scribble across your page? Put down your pen and pull out the eraser! Erase those thoughts! They don’t have to be a part of your story. Then close your eyes and enjoy sweet sleep trusting that you are in our Father’s hands.

Casting down imaginations
and every high thing that exalts itself
against the knowledge of God,
Bringing every thought into captivity
to the obedience of Christ,
2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV

TOMORROW’S PAGE

What happened today is just a page in your story. Tomorrow, is a blank page.

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness,
 Lamentations 3:22-23

Why not give Jesus the pen and let Him write your story?

Heavenly Father, as I write Lamentations 3:22-23 and say it aloud, reveal to me how much You love me and want to write my story. Help me to release the pen to You. In Jesus name. Amen.
