Faith & Rejection – WHAT DO YOU HEAR?

Sheila anxiously watched as Jessie slipped on his new hearing aid. Squeezing Sheila’s hands with his sweaty palms he said, “Here goes.”  Quickly he turned away from Sheila. With his voice quivering, he instructed, “Now whisper something, anything.”

Sheila hesitated, rejection dominating her thoughts. Previously when she had said, “I love you,” her words were ignored.  She wondered, Is it possible that he had simply not heard her? Nervously she whispered once again, “I love you.” A broad smile spread across his face. Turning around his arms enveloped Shelia in a warm hug. “I heard everything you said and I love you too.”

WHAT DO YOU HEAR?

Words, words, words! We hear them in abundance every day. Do we need a hearing aid like Jessie to hear words of love? Without his hearing aid, Sheila’s words of love were just distorted.  However, when Jessie’s hearing was enhanced, the distortion was removed allowing him to both hear and receive love.

Sometimes we need a little hearing enhancement too. When we hear or think negative words, they can distort our perception of ourselves preventing us hearing and receiving God’s love.

Rejection removes our confidence to take action. It can prevent us from being who God created us to be. It can make us miss out on the desires of our heart. Look at Sheila. Feeling rejected almost made her miss out on the desires of her heart!  We don’t have to miss out. We can become who God created us to be.

HOW?
BY ENHANCING OUR HEARING!

When we read the scriptures aloud, we hear how God sees us. It will increase our faith in who God says we are and change our distorted perspective of ourselves.

So, then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God,
 Romans 10:17

Seeing ourselves through God’s loving perspective strengthens our desire to follow Him. As He leads, we will become the person God designed us to be. Our hearts’ desires will meld with His and we will receive the rewards of our faith.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him,
Hebrews 11:6.

LET’S TURN ON OUR HEARING AID & START READING ALOUD!

YOU ARE LOVED.

God loves you whether you love Him or not.

In this is love, not that we loved God,
but that He loved us and sent His Son to be an atonement for our sins,
 1 John 4:10

YOU ARE CHOSEN.

From the very beginning, God has wanted to make you His child.

He chose us in him before the foundation of the world…
having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to himself,
 Ephesians 1:4a, 5a

YOU ARE WONDERFULLY MADE.

I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvelous are your works; and that my soul knows very well,
 Psalms 139:14

YOU ARE THE IMAGE OF HIS SON.

For whom he foreknew,
He also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son,
Romans 8:29

YOU ARE IMPORTANT.

You are so important to God that He has written your name on His hand.

Can a woman forget her nursing child,
and not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely, they may forget.  Yet I will not forget you.
See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands,
 Isaiah 49:15-16

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

Do God’s Words help you to hear how loved you are?  Does it start to change any distorted perspective of yourself? If you are having trouble hearing God’s love accurately, let’s try turning up your hearing aid by making it more personal. When you read God’s Words of love aloud, place your name in the scriptures like I have below.

REFLECTION

How do you see yourself?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, as I write (select a verse from above), and say it aloud, replace my thoughts of rejection with Your perspective of me. Help me to clearly hear Your love for me and become the person You have designed me to be. In Jesus name, Amen.

IN FAITH HEAR GOD’S WORD

May your day be filled with love and laughter!
