Faith – CONQUERING OUR GIANTS!

“Ahhh! A GIANT!” Screamed the children as their feet pounded through the house like claps of thunder. Reaching their father, Julia leapt into his arms while Josh dove onto the sofa beside him and scrambled under the cushions.

In a matter of minutes, their oldest son, Ben, stomped into the room wearing a scraggly beard, long wig and fake muscles. “Grrrr! Hisss!” With arms stretched out towards his siblings, Ben beat his chest and yelled, “I am going to eat you for lunch!” “Ok Ben,” said his father, “That’s enough.” His fear dispelled by his father’s presence, Josh boldly shouted, “Yeah Ben!”

Although we don’t have to worry about being eaten for lunch, at times we may all face giants. What giants? Giants of fear, depression, turmoil and uncertainty. Especially in times like these, they loom in front of us and seem overwhelming, unconquerable and larger than life, like well, giants. But in reality, because we as believers have our Heavenly Father, they CAN be overcome.

WHAT DO WE DO
WHEN GIANTS CLOSE IN?

FEAR!

When faced with our giant fears, we run! Like the children ran to their loving father, we run to the one who will dispel our fears; our loving Heavenly Father. Through Him we are empowered to stand against fear.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear,
but of power and of love and of a sound mind,
2 Timothy 1:7

DEPRESSION!

If depression feels like a giant crushing our spirits, we can have faith that our Heavenly Father will deliver us, Psalm 34:18-19 NIV.  By running to Him we can trade our depression for hope, joy and peace.

Now may the God of hope fill you
with all joy and peace in believing,
that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit,
Romans 15:13

TURMOIL! UNCERTAINTY!

Giant uncertainty can overwhelm us when faced with the world’s turmoil or just overloaded with things to do. By crying out to our Heavenly Father, He will lead us to a place above the chaos, Psalm 61:2.  We may not know our future, but the Lord does. We can have faith that He is still in control.

The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
And His kingdom rules over all,

Psalm 103:19

DO GIANTS FEEL LARGER THAN LIFE?

We don’t have to face them alone. Our Heavenly Father is with us and powerful enough to conquer them.

‘Ah, Lord God! Behold,
You have made the heavens and the earth
by Your great power and outstretched arm.
There is nothing too hard for You,
Jeremiah 32:17

WHAT DID GOD DO
 WHEN DAVID FACED A GIANT?

Young David was visiting his brothers in Israel’s army camp. There he found the army terrorized by a giant Philistine, Goliath.  By faith David decided to face Goliath. So, young David standing no taller1 than 5’5,’’ confronts Goliath who towers over him at 9’9’’ saying:

“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts.  This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”
 1 Samuel 17: 45-47 (excerpts)

Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. So, David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him.
1 Samuel 17: 49-50

What our Heavenly Father did for David, through Jesus He will do for us. Even if we have been defeated, it is not too late to run to Him. He can turn our defeat to victory and use it for good. Through Him, we can conquer our giants.

Yet in all these things
we are more than conquerors
through Him who loved us,
Romans 8:37

 JESUS IS GREATER
THEN ANY GIANT WE COULD EVER FACE!

You are of God, little children,
and have overcome them,
because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world,
 1 John 4:4

REFLECTION

Are you facing a giant?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, as I write 1 John 4:4 and say it aloud, strengthen my faith reminding me that through Jesus I can conquer any giant I will ever face. In Jesus name, Amen.

BY FAITH, JESUS CONQUERS GIANTS
