Round, and around and around you go, where you stop, nobody knows! Looking for the revolving door to slow down, you jump in and push as you go around and around, bypassing the exit to your desired destination. Then you slow down and jump out.
But do you stay out? Of course not! You continue to jump back in and back out, hoping to avoid getting whacked by the door! That is until you hear your father yelling, “Hurry up and get out of the revolving door!”
We often get stuck
in a revolving door and don’t even realize it.
When we pray, then speak or act in opposition to our prayer, it is like getting stuck in a revolving door, where we keep missing our desired destination. When in faith, we ask the Lord to provide for us, we enter the door that will bring us to victory. However, we miss our desired destination when we act or speak contrary to our prayer of faith.
Like with our finances.
Have you ever prayed for the Lord to provide and then said things like, “I don’t have enough to pay my bills” or “I can’t afford that!” If we do that often enough, at some point, we are going to get whacked by the door as we exit out the wrong side with unanswered prayers.
So why weren’t our prayers answered?
“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting,
for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
he is a double minded man, unstable in all his ways,”
James 1:6-8.
Speaking or acting in opposition to our prayers is being double-minded, and as this Scripture says, we will not receive anything from the Lord.
We don’t need to deny reality, but we do want to avoid getting whacked by the revolving door by speaking or acting in faith as we trust our loving God to be victorious.
So, what do we say when we are broke, and someone asks if we have enough money to pay our bills? Perhaps we say, “Not at this moment, but I trust the Lord will provide.”
REFLECTION
• What does it mean to be double minded regarding our prayers?
• What does James 1:6-8 say about being double minded?
• Is there something you have been praying for that you believe is God’s will but haven’t received?
• Ask God to show you if you have spoken or acted in opposition to your prayer. Describe how you may have done this.
• Write how you can speak or act in faith.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, write this Scripture on my heart as I read it out loud and write it in my Faith Notebook. Heavenly Father, help me to see evidence of this Scripture today.
