Faith – IT’S AN ADVENTURE!

Cascading waterfalls, tropical rainforest, and majestic mountains flash before you as you soar through the sky. What are you doing? Why, ziplining of course!

Take this quiz and see how much you know about ziplines around the world!

Are you adventurous enough to try the longest, highest, and fastest ziplines in the world? Check out the answers below and decide!

For the longest zipline extending 10,590 feet head to South Africa’s K3 zipline. Stretching out like superman riders zip along at speeds of 75-90 mph, 525 feet in the air. 1

How high would you like to go? How about 10,600 Feet? The La Tyrolienne in the French alps zips you over snow topped mountains. Be prepared for the cold! This is a winter zip line! 2

Would you like to ride faster than you drive? You can at Nekoma Speed in Japan. Riders fly through scenic mountains at 100 miles per hour.

DO YOU WANT AN ADVENTURE?

You don’t have to travel to any of these places for adventure. We can have an adventure with Jesus. Like ziplining, all it takes is little faith.

GET EQUIPPED!

On a recent trip to Georgia, we got adventurous. For the first time, Alan, our daughter Jacquelyn & I went ziplining! We had no idea what to expect. Before starting our adventure, the venue equipped us with helmets and harnesses which the guides secured around us. But we needed to be equipped with more. We needed to be equipped with faith.

We could never go on a ziplining adventure without faith. Faith that the harness was sturdy. Faith that the hooks would latch securely and faith that the cable was strong. In other words, we needed to have faith that all of it would hold us up!

As we walk through life, do we always know what to expect? Isn’t each day an adventure? Just as we needed faith that the zipline would hold us up, in life we need faith in the one who will hold us up: Jesus.

Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life,
Psalm 54:4

THE FIRST STEP IS A DOOZY!

Our adventure started off on a low platform. “Go first mom, you’ll be funny!” laughed Jacquelyn. “Ok!” I confidently replied. But as I stood there thinking about stepping out into thin air, concerns flooded my thoughts. Thin air! I needed a little help, so she pushed me! Don’t worry, I asked her to.

Screaming I soared along. Towards the end of the cable, concerning thoughts resurfaced. I wondered, How will I stop? Will I land on my rump in the forest or slap into a tree? Thankfully, neither of those things happened as the guide pulled cords with a block to stop me. I felt like a plane landing on an aircraft carrier. Although I must have been easier to stop.

Next Alan, then Jacquelyn zipped down. Neither required a push to start their journey. Do you think their confidence came from watching me?

Like faith in Jesus, our adventure with Him means we must step out into thin air. It’s not always easy. If we allow concerns to flood our thoughts, we may freeze in place and miss our adventure in faith. If that happens, we can get a little push of encouragement from someone else. Or who knows?  Our example may encourage someone else to step out in faith.

For we walk by faith, not by sight, 2 Corinthians 5:7

IT’S A PROGRESSION!

We rode 4 ziplines, each more progressively higher, longer, and faster than the one before it. We climbed some rocky terrain to reach one platform and took a very bumpy ride to reach another. The progression eased us up to our 100-foot-high final ride. From there we soared for 1,200 feet through a canopy of trees and over a pond at 65 mph. I loved it!

Just as faith to zipline didn’t automatically happen, our faith that Jesus can hold us up doesn’t automatically happen either. As we go through life encountering rocky situations and bumpy paths and see Jesus holding us up, our faith grows. Each situation develops our character and strengthens our faith to face the future with Him.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience, James 1:2-3

EVERYONE’S DIFFERENT!

Zipping along I even let go! Well, at least for a moment. Mainly I hung on for dear life. However, everyone is different. Our daughter was more adventurous letting go and even flipping upside down, on purpose!

Just as our faith to zipline was different for each of us, our faith in Jesus is different for us all as well. That’s ok. Wherever we are in our faith, we can continue to grow it one step at a time.

Whether it’s ziplining or our faith in Jesus, being adventurous is worth taking that first step! Once we take it, we can rest in Him and enjoy the scenery as we zip peacefully above the troubles below.

WHEN WE STEP OUT IN FAITH,
THE RIDE MAY BE BUMPY,
BUT WITH JESUS WE CAN SOAR!

REFLECTION

Is Jesus asking you to step out in faith?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, as I write 2 Corinthains 5:7 and say it aloud, give me the courage to step out in faith. In Jesus name, Amen.

FAITH IN JESUS IS AN ADVENTURE!
